Massage and Art
I love doing massage! I’ve always felt that massage helps me tap into an artistic side of myself, creating something beautiful (the experience), bringing joy and better health into the life of another, right along with their hopes, intentions and collaborations. Reading people’s bodies, seeing their structural patterns, feeling their energetic flow, also where they are not energetically flowing; feeling their hesitation/discomfort/anticipation give way to being in the moment and in the flow of the unwinding of their tissues; knowing that there’s an internal process of the relaxing of their nervous system and the increase of their dopamine response unfolding under my hands, ushering them into a state of deep healing and balance. It’s not an art to be seen, but to be felt. I enjoy disappearing from their awareness as they take a journey inward to their own internal experience of life via sensation.
Such a gift it is to be a massage therapist! Such a gift it is to be trusted and welcomed to share in the vulnerable, personalize space of another human being, to witness another’s process and journey; to be allowed to touch their life in this way. A gift to me to be able to tap into my right-brained creativity to bring a level of healing to you.
Those of you that know me well, know that I like to dabble in other creative outlets when I’m not in the massage room; singing, quilting, soap making, animal raising… Some of these hobbies come and go, but some have ‘staying power’.
In the past few years I’ve been dabbling with another form of art – painting! Like, on canvas. As I’ve become more comfortable with the medium of acrylic painting, I find that what pours out of me and onto the canvas is a reflection of all the things that make me feel alive and joyful! Along the way of course are techniques and learning curves that challenge me and ‘kick my butt’, but then start to unfold into something understandable that creates a felt sensation within; a tingle of excitement, a giggle of joy, a feeling of being seen by the eyes in the painting staring back at me… Here’s an art that can be seen and sometimes even felt! How incredible! This one feels like it may have ‘staying power’ in my life. 🙂
I want to do good in the world. I’ve always wanted to do good in the world. To help others. To bring joy to this experience of life. Massage is truly an awesome vehicle that lets me feel that I can do just that, one massage session at a time. I’m finding that my art on canvas may be another such vehicle to spread good and joy from my heart to yours! One painting at a time, one print at a time. 🙂
Next time you come in for a massage, save a few minutes to take a look around my office and see if you can feel the artwork, for it is here that I intend to share my acrylic art and hopefully bring some extra joy to your day! ❤️
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing in this beautiful ‘Art of Healing’ journey with me through the years. I hope for, and look forward to, many more years on this path with you to come.
